Haddon Hall

I've been having a little digital clear out of late and came across these photos of Haddon Hall from last August. That bank holiday was particularly special because I finally met one of my favourite online bods all the way from Germany! We spent a good few hours in the gardens and exploring the hall before stopped for a roast dinner and some great gluten free cake.

Wonderful Wednesday Twenty Three

Good morning and happy Wednesday! I completely forgot last week's post, things here have been so busy that the weeks are passing in a whirlwind! I've made an extra effort to notice those things that make me happy so let's jump right in.

Gardening
We've been enjoying a couple of sunny weekends and getting some gardening done. I am practically black fingered when it comes to outdoor plants so any tips are welcome! Since creating the herb garden we have also painted the shed a pretty peppermint and started doing some serious weeding. It will be fit for summer BBQ's in no time.

Wonderful Wednesday Twenty Two

Good morning and happy Wednesday! I am sat nursing a HUGE cup of coffee at my work desk at 7.30am as I write this. The husband had to be at work early today so I thought I would take the opportunity to get a few extra bits done myself, hopefully leading to less stress overall today. Stress is definitely around in abundance at the moment and I'm constantly trying to counteract the effects. In a couple of months the annual project of mammoth proportions will be over, so it's not forever. Anyway, on with the merry!

31 Days of Yoga
I began doing Yoga with Adriene's 31 Days of Yoga Revolution 6 days ago. I am planning on keeping it up and am calling it an unofficial "31 days of yoga until I turn 31". I feel more focused and even though yesterday, I just wanted to curl up on the sofa and rest, I made sure to get myself on my mat. I'm always glad that I did.

Wonderful Wednesday Twenty One

Good morning and happy Wednesday! What a week it has been! We had the joy of Doris taking out part of our garden fence and a beloved garden gnome along with being so busy that I feel like I can't catch my breath. Today is perfectly timed to sit and remind myself of the best bits.

Annual Leave
As per the above and to try and find my balance, I have booked a couple of days off this week. That makes today my Friday and I couldn't be happier. Of course, I do have to fit 3 days work into 1 but I will take it!

Wonderful Wednesday Twenty

I didn't really mean for this blog to be all about the Wonderful Wednesday posts, not that that's a bad thing. With all of the plates spinning in the air at the moment it's nice to sit and take stock of the best bits.

Visits from Lovely Folk
My favourite friend, from those long ago university days, visited a week last Saturday and it was wonderful. We ate Chinese food, bared our souls and watched plenty of feel good films. We don't see each other much anymore, what with her living a couple of hours away and having her own little family so I really treasure those times when we do get together.

Wonderful Wednesday Nineteen

Good morning and happy Wednesday! Time is of the essence this morning before I am swallowed up into a work project so let's bring on the happy moments.

Homemade Detergent
When we ran out of our current detergent and softener, I made a promise to myself to try and make my own. After coming across this recipe on Homesong which seemed like a simple and gentle alternative I gave it a go over the weekend. I've already done a few washes with it and wow. I never realised before that the scent I associate with "clean" is actually an added fragrance or perfume. I'll write a longer post on this shortly.

Wonderful Wednesday Eighteen

Happy Wednesday! I really thought that I wouldn't make today's post. Despite missing last weeks as well, I am struggling to find those little joys amongst all of the stress I have been experiencing in my professional life. Truth be told, it's been hard. However, sitting at my desk and typing this post will give me a moment to actually hone in and focus on those moments, which, can only be a good thing. On to the wonderful!

The Sunrise
On Sunday morning I woke up to the prettiest pink sunrise over garden. It was the first moment in quite a while that I had stopped to take notice of it. The front of the house was bathed in a golden glow but the pink when I made my breakfast really made me smile.

Weekend Reads #6

Happy Sunday! I've spent most of this weekend trying to get the second bedroom to a point where the skirting boards can go on next week. A slightly dull but necessary task. Tonight is all about going to watch Sherlock at the cinema, yes I'm that person. Hope you've had a good one!

Here's a round up of some of my favourite posts from the last week if you wanted to add some more to your own reading list:

Invite Delight // Becoming Minimalist

Wonderful Wednesday Seventeen

Good morning and happy Wednesday! This week my cold has threatened to make a comeback and I am wrapping myself in blankets and drinking all the tea at my desk. Despite this, there has been quite a few good things in the last week and here are the highlights:

Byron's Promotion
Byron got a promotion at work towards the end of the last year and started his phase over to his new team yesterday. I am so proud of him for being brave enough to try something out of his comfort zone and know that he will be a lot happier in his new role.

Wonderful Wednesday Sixteen

Happy Wonderful Wednesday to you! The first one of the year is here and I for one am really happy to be continuing this into 2017. Even if I don't post anything else, and even if I sometimes skip one, I do love noting down these little things which happen each week. This will be a two week special because Christmas!

Catching up with family
My family only live 70 miles away but the 2 hour trip isn't one that we make regularly when life gets busy. Don't get me wrong, I'm the girl who speaks to her mum on the phone several times a week but it just isn't the same as sitting in the same space and being around the energy of those people who shaped you. We only had a few days visiting my folks but those days of cooking, laughing and eating copious amounts of desserts were definitely ones to be treasured.

2017: Word of the Year

I'm not one for grand gestures or impressive New Years Resolution's which promise to change my life but instead make me feel guilty and miserable. Instead, like many others, I am adopting a word of the year. Last year, unofficially, it was kindness. Whilst I have always been on the ball with my kindness to others, it was kindness towards myself which was lacking. I think I really tackled that with my eating habits last year, adopting Veganism for 8 months for the sake of my digestive system and then trying Whole 30. I also took up monthly acupuncture and gave myself some space to just be in the moment.
